Lina León
Singer and flutist
She plays on historical flutes with the leading period-instrument orchestras around the world.

Since 2010 she performs regularly as Sub Principal flute of the Orchestre
Révolutionnaire et Romantique , conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner, taking part in successful tours through Europe and the United States, that includes residencies at the Opéra Comique in Paris and series of concerts at the Carnegie Hall in New York.

Born in Huelva, Spain, at the age of 16 she moves to Seville to enrol at the Higher Conservatory of Music of the city where she Graduates with distinctions, receiving several Honour Prizes. Then moving on to Amsterdam Conservatory, where she specializes on historical flutes with Marten Root and finishes her Master Degrees on modern flute with the highest qualifications. During her studies she worked with very important figures of the early music scene such as Masaaki Suzuki or Frans Brüggen. She has been playing in ensembles such as The Netherlands Bach Society,
Die Kólner Akademie, Dunedin Consort, English Haydn Orchestra, Fiori Musicali, L’ Orquestra del Montsalvat or Brandenburg Baroque Soloists. She is regularly performing in the Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht Orchestra, using a whole range of flutes across varied repertoires, from Bach’s works to Beethoven, Brahms or Strawinsky.

Lina León has been Principal of the Academy Orchestra of the Grand Theatre Liceu in Barcelona Opera House, working extensively in opera and ballet projects as well as in solo concerti. Her recordings include W. F. Bach Sinfonia in d-minor Adagio and fugue with NPU (Globe Records), “Live at Carnegie” ,“Live at Concertgebouw with the ORR (Soli Deo Gloria) and her most recent work “The Rare Treasures of Faith”, recording selected works of Morten Raehs and Adolph Scheibe with the danish group “Phemius Consort” and the multi grammy awarded label Dacapo Records.

Due to her versatility and her vast ability to bridge both worlds, she appears often as a singer and a flute improvisor in flamenco and latin-jazz fusion projects. During her years living in London she has been performing regularly in Ronnie’s Scotts or at the legendary 606 Jazz Club. She has been singing flamenco with dance companies for more than a decade, been employed in tablaos (flamenco venues) such as “Palacio del Flamenco” and “Los Tarantos” in Barcelona.

The renowned choreographer and recently awarded with the “Spanish National Dance Prize” Sol Picó recruited her to perform as a singer, actress, dancer and flutist in her last production “We Women” that has been premiered on the Grec Festival and the International Festival of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In 2015 she started her own project, introducing for the first time period flutes in flamenco music by filming a video of her own creative idea at the Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona A Camarón . Since then, she has been composing and performing her own music. As a singer, she is a passionate seeker for different colours and new vocal approaches, such as overtone and throat singing.

An enthusiastic educator she has been teaching at Taller de Musics in Barcelona and running her workshop “El ritmo en el cuerpo”, inducing flute players, through movement techniques, flamenco music and the way of feeling the rhythm in different types of world music, to play any repertoire from a more diaphanous and genuine inner place.
