90 Minutes Saturday Review October 5th

Written by on 5th October 2019

There was heartache for WARE as they went out of the FA Cup after Potters Bar’s Josh Hutchinson converted a penalty two minutes from time at Wodson Park. The hosts had taken a 7th minute lead in front of a bumper crowd of 378 when Olu AKINSANYA bundled home Tom Bruno’s free kick. Liam Hope came within inches of making it two, minutes later when his lob bounced off the underside of the crossbar. Potters Bar were level on the quarter hour when Bradley Sach turned home James Buddens knock down. In a closely fought encounter both sides had chances to take the lead but after Callum Kitscha had saved superbly from George Craddock it looked as though the tie was heading for a replay until Harry Norman fouled Ben Ward-Cochrane inside the box allowing Hutchinson to thump home his 9th goal of the season. There were unseemly scenes at the restart as Scholars George Quarrington-Carter kicked the ball away starting a brawl which ended in Ware’s Jordan Watson and the visitors Bradley Sach both being red carded. Afterwards WARE boss Paul HALSEY told East Herts Radio; “It is what it is the cup has been a great adventure but thats gone and we have to start again in the league at Uxbridge on Tuesday.” You can hear the full interview on 90 Minutes tommorow (October 6th) from 9pm.

HERTFORD gained a point and kept only their second clean sheet of the season in a 0-0 draw with South Park at the Acre Cars Stadium. While WELWYN GARDEN CITY were also held at home, the Citizens went behind to an early penalty Romelle ALOMENU equalising eight minutes later.

There was an eight goal thriller at Lowfield as ST MARGARETSBURY fought back from 3-1 down to earn a point against HODDESDON. Early goals from Jordan HALLS and Jack LEE put the home side into a 2-0 lead Daniel PALMER pulling a goal back for the Bury before Isaac MAFOR-JACOBS made in 3-1 eight minutes before half time. The visitors struck back again before the break through Kyle ROBERTS. The lively ROBERTS then scored twice in the second period to complete his hattrick and put the Bury back in front MAFOR-JACOBS grabbing a point for the Lillywhites in added time. SAWBRIDGEWORTH TOWN stay rooted to the foot of the Essex Senior League despite leading ten man Enfield 2-1 at half time. The home side had Jamie Cureton sent off after only 10 minutes but still took the lead through Olly Miles, two goals in the final three minutes of the half turned the match in the visitors favour at the break. The game stayed level until a seven minute hattrick by Josh Sykes condemned the Robins to their ninth straight league defeat.

In Rugby HERTFORD made it two wins out of two beating London Irish Wild Geese 36-14 at Hoe Lane while in Hockey WELWYN GARDEN CITY Men and HERTFORD Ladies both maintained their unbeaten records.
