There were plenty of fireworks at Julius Martin Lane as WARE lost out on penalties to Soham Town Rangers in the Velocity Trophy after surrendering a four goal lead. A first half hattrick by Liam HOPE added to Kardan CAMPBELL‘s first goal of the season had put the visitors comfortably in front at the break. Soham though staged a dramatic second half comeback with a brace from Ryan Auger a Sam Mulready penalty and a Tom Newman strike taking the tie to penalties which the home side won 6-5. Despite tonights disappointment WARE can still qualify for the next stage of the competition if they beat Harlow Town at home next Tuesday.
WELWYN GARDEN CITY‘s run in the Southern League Cup is over. Having already accounted for Premier League opponents in Hitchin Town and Royston The Citizens went down 2-1 to Needham Market at the Isabel Hospice Stadium.
HODDESDON TOWN cruised into the next round of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy after a 4-0 win over Enfield. Jack LEE got the Lillywhites on their way heading Connor Bolton’s corner in at the far post with 16 minutes gone. Despite enjoying the majority of the possession the home side had to wait until just before half time for number two Joss LILLIS finishing a fine move from inside the box. Liam MULLIGAN hit number three with a curling shot from the edge of the area before the visitors Chris Gormley was red carded. Jordan HALLS completing the scoring with a break from half way setting up a quarter final tie away to Hashtag United who beat SAWBRIDGEWORTH TOWN 4-0 thanks to goals from Ross Gleed, Ryan Adams, George Irving, and Tashan Richmond.
