High Street, WARE, One Way System REVERSAL COVID-19 Social Distancing Measures

Written by on 31st July 2020

Hertfordshire County Council are refining measures to the one way system through Ware High Street.

Highways are working to support the Public health COVID-19 Measures. Current government guidelines advise pedestrianised areas to allow space for users to maintain a social distance to reduce the risk of spreading the virus, Therefore, where practical, traffic lanes can be closed, and a one way system implemented to increase footway width.

Following consultation with stakeholders, including local business owners and transports companies, the council has determined that the one way system would be better served running West to East – Baldock Street to Bridge Foot, Star Street through the High Street which in turn will offer improved access to essential services.

With the one way system changing in Ware, Buses will not be able to travel through the high street towards the priory. The diversion for bus routes in the town will be via New Road, Collett Road and The Bourne. Bus Stops in the High Street will NOT be served in this direction. Intending passengers should utilise the stops at Ware Crossing or New Road. Buses heading towards the railway station through the town centre will make use of High Street Stops which will be reopened.

The boundaries and extent of the one way system will not be changing as part of the alteration though advance signage will be amended to ensure drivers are directed along the appropriate routes.

The Reversal of this one way system will take place on the 13 AUGUST 2020. This has been planned in consideration of Peak Traffic Flows and to ensure minimum disruption on the highway.
