Firefighters from Sawbridgeworth and Stansted were among crews from five fire stations who attended a blaze at a children’s nursery on the outskirts of Harlow on Monday (Sept 18).

Steve Allan, watch manager at Harlow fire station, said that when crews arrived at Blossoms Nursery in Horseshoe Farm West, London Road, near junction 7 of the M11, the building was 100% smoke-logged and there were flames on both the first and second floors.

"There were multiple trip hazards and items to manoeuvre around inside the building, but our firefighters did a fantastic job of working together to surround and extinguish the fire," said Mr Allan.

Firefighters extinguished the fire by 8.45pm. A fire investigation recorded it as accidental. Firefighters believe it was caused by an electrical appliance in the utility room.

Fire crews from Harlow, Cheshunt and Brentwood also attended.
