Asda issues urgent food recall as popular chicken product has 'possible health risk'

Asda is recalling a chicken product as it contains gluten that is not mentioned on the label.

For people with coeliac disease or any other condition which makes them gluten intolerant, there is a “possible health risk” if they were to have the Asda Classic Boneless Chicken Dinner Joint.

The Food Standards Agency said the 580g size pack with a use-by-date of October 1 is affected. It states: “Asda is recalling Asda Classic Boneless Chicken Dinner Joint because it contains wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.” The food watchdog is warning people with coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance not to eat the chicken and they should return it to the Asda store where they can get a full refund.

It states: "Asda is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

It adds: "If you have bought the above product and have coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was purchased for a full refund. For more information please contact Asda Customer relations on 0800 952 0101."

Last week Morrisons issued an urgent recall after a meat product was found to contain a dangerous bacterial infection. Customers who have bought the 200g Spanish Chorizo Ring from the supermarket have been told not to eat it and return it to their nearest Morrisons immediately - because it could contain salmonella.

The warning applies to products with a best before date of 08/12/23. Anyone with the product can return it to the shop for a full refund, and you don't need to bring a receipt.
