For the first time in the charity’s history, Crimestoppers will promote its unique anonymous reporting service on cinema screens across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire for the next eight weeks.

The campaign is to encourage and reassure those who have information about crime – no matter how big or small – to tell Crimestoppers.

The charity is independent of the police and guarantee everyone stays 100% anonymous when they pass on what they know.

Crimestoppers research has found that nearly a fifth of the public have known about a crime at some point, but have chosen not to talk to the police directly.

Over the past year, Crimestoppers received almost 7,000 reports about crime in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. From people across these regions via their website Crimestoppers-uk.org or their 0800 555 111 number, which is available to call at any time.

Annabelle Goodenough, Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said: “We are hoping that through this campaign, we can engage with the public on a large scale. People contact Crimestoppers because they have information about crime but for whatever reason, do not wish to reveal their identity. This is why our charity exists, as we offer an anonymous way for people to speak up and help keep their communities safe without anyone ever knowing.

“When someone reports a crime to Crimestoppers over the phone, the number cannot be seen at our end and the call is not recorded or tracked, and we do not have a redial facility. The same level of protection is guaranteed when using our website form – we guarantee 100% anonymity.

“By contacting Crimestoppers, you can speak up, stop crime and stay safe.”
