A woman in her 20s suffered a “severe medical episode” after her car was involved in a crash in Sawbridgeworth on Monday night with a suspected drug driver’s vehicle.

Police are appealing for witnesses, dashcam footage and information following the collision, which happened on High Wych Road at around 9.20pm.

It involved a black Nissan Micra and a silver Mercedes A180. The female Micra driver subsequently suffered a severe medical episode. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The 19-year-old male driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit for drugs and has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

The East of England Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, an ambulance officer vehicle and a rapid response vehicle from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance charity. “One patient, an adult female, was assessed at the scene before being transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital [in Harlow] for further care,” said a spokesperson.

Sgt Jim Carmichael, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit, said: “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. As part of this we are appealing for anyone who witnessed it, or who saw the vehicles being driven in the area prior to it, to please come forward.

“We’d be particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dashcam footage. If you can help, please get in touch.”
